How do you pronounce "plays" and "place"?

To me, they sound the same to me. Google says "plays" and "place" should be pronounced as "pleɪz" and "pleɪs" respectively
So one ends with -z and the other ends with -s? They sound the same to me.
Top Comment: Yea I can see how that would be a challenge to distinguish. 'Plays' - " pleɪz " - Lean in to that Z sound like in Zip, Zoom, or the medial Z, Plaza distinct from: 'Place' - " pleɪs " - Softer than a Z, pronounced like a "S", like in Spoon, Smile, or Salts. Most 'ce' suffixes will sound like this 'S'. Space, Price, Lettuce, Ice.

Having to say goodbye to my favorite sushi place :(

I don't even know how to feel. I've been supporting my local sushi restaurant weekly for the last 4 years. Within the last month I've already found fish bones in my sushi twice on two separate occasions.
The first time I found a sharp fish bone that was a little over an inch after I bit into the sushi and felt something stab me in the mouth. It was almost as big as the roll itself. I let that one slide.
I went back this afternoon for redemption. Once again I ordered the same roll and it too had a good sized fish bone that I almost choked on once again.
I called up the sushi restaurant and let them know that this was the 2nd time this month I've found good sized bones in my sushi. The manager said it's normal and that in their culture they don't let ANYTHING go to waste.
Funny because I've been getting the same roll every week for the past 4 years and never once found a bone until recently.
I don't even know what to think anymore. This seems unacceptable to me considering how expensive it is and the quality is really good despite the bones.
Am I overreacting or would any of you blacklist a restaurant for this happening? It pains me because it's the only place that has actually good sushi.

Go in one more time. Order the same roll. Snap a photo. Find and call up the owner and tell him you’ve been coming here for four years. In the last two months, his manager’s been okaying bones in the sushi. This is the third time this has happened. Include pictures and emphasize you’ve been enjoying this particular roll for the last four years without issue.
Give them about a week, then go back and order the sushi again. If you find bones, take a pic and walk out, leaving the sushi on the table. They’ve stopped caring, and so should you.
How do you say "to happen/take place" in Russian?

There seem to be a lot of different ways to say something "happened/took place" in Russian. Are there any significant differences between these words or how they are used?

- случаться/случиться
- бывать/побывать
- сстояться
Top Comment: When describing an occurrence, (1.) and (2.) are basically equivalents and mostly used interchangeably, with a bit of leaning towards one or another in certain set phrases. --- (3.) is a derivative of 'to be' and can be used in a range of meanings; however, specifically in relation to occurrences only present and past forms of the imperfective verbs are ever used. That would describe an event that happens/happened recurrently, from time to time, irregularly, or, at least, more than once. Бывает. = '[It] happens.' Бывало. = '[It] happened before more than once'. This word is only used in a specific way that necessarily builds a complex sentence that takes everything else into a subjunctive clause: Бывало, что у него не оставалось денег даже на сигареты. Sometimes he would have no money left even for cigarettes. (You may also encounter instances of emphasised '[such a thing] happened', too: «бывало такое, что...».) You can't build a future imperfective with «бывать», as building a future form of an imperfective requires using an auxiliary future form of 'to be' («будет») which in this instance would've resulted in tautology, hence you must use an imperfective form of (1.) or (2.) instead to convey the same meaning in the future. (Perfective forms of this verb are never used to describe an occurrence per se; they only relate to describing having been somewhere or having visited someone/somewhere.) --- (4.) is a stylistically superior equivalent of (1.) and (2.) that clearly identifies there's all or most of the following involved: planning, intent, scale, consequentiality, and a certain degree of formality. Basically, it has a highly ceremonial flavour in it. You'd normally use «состояться» to describe weddings, concerts, business meetings, 'serious conversations', etc. --- Hope this helps!

I found out about you when some idiot brought your sarcastic post to Mydeimains. I spent a bit of time in read-only mode but I feel like I can express my somewhat specific thought here. I'll do a little intro, it's just important to explain my thought, sorry!
I'm a lesbian woman but I like shipping. I don't usually limit myself to WLW pairings, I like everything at once, but today while I was drinking coffee and scrolling through reddit, a thought was spinning in my brain like an annoying dwarf looking for a precious vein. We all know that hoyo uses the fanservice strategy for women and gay people as a hidden ship of two characters. After all, someone has to buy the merch lol.
And for the most part, I don't like the pairings that hoyo is pushing on us. I've already gotten a couple of death wishes in some sub for saying that I don't like the pairings Aventurine x Ratio, Dan Heng x Blade, and Argenti x Boothill.
I don't have an ounce of negative emotions towards these pairings, they're just not my rice bowl. But there is one possible one that worries me.
Anaxa and Phainon. I'll be honest with you. Su is one of the most bland characters in hi3 in general. My stages of this pairing were something like indifference (why, there's the beautiful Mei) - some interest - indifference again (Otto is my baby and the toxic relationship of two idiots). I'm not even sure that Anaxa is an expy at all, and not the Alhaitham situation. But everyone around is sure and everyone around is also sure that the hoyos are obliged to pair him with Phainon. Or with MC, which is even worse lol.
And I'm sitting with my Mydei. And I hope that what Hoyo started now (and for now the hidden fanserfic is happening between Phainon and Mydei) will continue. And I just feel that it can become as toxic as always, if you dared not to like the "main" pairing. And every time I think of situations on twitter, when Blade and DHIL shippers bullied everyone else and then Ratio and Aventurine shippers attacked and filth in the Topaz and Aventurine and Ratio and Argenti tags.
I don't know why I'm writing this, probably because I want to talk about it a little.

Bestie just ignore Twitter and its negativity. I just browse it for saucy art and don't read any tweets or comments. Just a bunch of brain dead peeps trying to start drama everywhere. Like someone would make a saucy fanart of a character, tag it for that character and you'll still get comments like "ewww" like just ignore it? Why do they even bother commenting on the fanart.

Tommorow is my final day in Japan and I’ll be departing from Narita at about 10 pm so that gives me from about 8 am until 6 pm to go somewhere. I’ve been to most places in Tokyo but whay would you recommend be the perfect place to say goodbye to Japan because I don’t think I’ll be back in a while?
